The first ikea store ever was opened in 1985 in Sweden. In 1943 ikea was founded by a 17-year old Swedisch guy called Ingvar Kamprad. Ingvar was a person who was born to become a business man. At a very young age, long before the the word ikea had ever come to his mind, he bought matches in bulks and tried selling them for a higher price to others. He later started selling christmas decorations, fish, seeds, ballpoint pens and pencils. When he was 17, his dad gave him money as a reward for succeeding in his study, this is the cash he used to start the major company you now know as IKEA. The acronym ikea stands for the initials of Ingvar Kamprad's name. Elmtaryd (where he was raised), and the village Agunnaryd. Put all those first letters together and they'll form the big brand name Ikea.
